It seemed a little odd to not be home for Easter, and belting out - TopicsExpress

It seemed a little odd to not be home for Easter, and belting out the descant to Jesus Christ is Risen Today, but instead, hiking to Tigers Nest in Bhutan, one of the most important Buddhist Temples. One of their gods consorts was able to change into the shape of a tiger, and he flew on her back to the top of the mountain, where he stayed and meditated for 3 or 4 months and was then able to defeat the demons there with 108 daggers (which they claim are still locked up in one of the rooms at the temple, and suffered no damage during the fire). As bizarre as that may sound, it really didnt sound any more far- fetched than when I informed Gangchu that us was Easter Sunday, the day Jesus was resurrected from the dead, after being crucified on the cross 3 days earlier. The story of Jesus turning water into wine? They have gods who turned themselves into dogs, tigers and all sorts of animals. Jesus feeding the multitudes? They have a story of 108 stupas being built in a day. Andrea asked me if there were any facts about Buddhism I didnt know before, and the answer is plenty! Like any religion, it is full of contradictions, stories of good and evil, mystery and trying to understand mans place in Lifes Plan. I did not know that there are 1000s of Buddhas! Buddha means enlightend, so they believe that there are many who have followed in the original Buddhas steps and have achieved that rare accomplishment. As Mike noted, it seems the more we learn about other religions, the more they seem the same. Basically, love one another and treat each other as you would like to be treated. And Faith seems to be the most common denominator of all religions. Whatever you believe. Happy Easter, Nameste and Peace to all Beings.
