It seems many people are convinced propaganda from the west is the same as that coming from Russia, and this is something I must strongly, and with all my heart, disagree with. There is no doubt propaganda exists on all sides, and that its meant to lead the public to support a certain point of view or measure the government, or corporations, wish to be supported. Its no secret, and its the same to the degree that truths are stretched and manipulated to paint a certain picture of events, but the similarities end there. What comes out of western media, with the exception of Fox news, and other extreme examples, is a mixture of fact and truth, and to a large degree the half-truths coming from government officials offered with a somewhat low degree of subjectivity. Fox offers a much higher degree of subjectivity when reporting the news, which is exactly what we can expect from news organizations such as RT, as evidenced by the leaks of talking points Fox received from the Bush administration. The RT receives its news from the Kremlin, with just enough authentic reporting to make it seem like a viable source of information to those with a less discerning mind. The difference: Russian news agencies receive their marching orders directly from the Kremlin. RT is state-owned and funded, and receives talking points and information from the Kremlin, which the Kremlin censors, inserts propaganda, and argues against western policies constantly, rather than simply reporting on them. Obviously, Im not talking about the annoying pundits on US news channels who wont shut up, and who feel were too stupid to come to our own conclusions regarding current events. Rachel Maddow, though I agree with much of what she says, is one such pundit. The way I hear most US news when watching the news is eerily similar to the way Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart report it - with a high degree of skepticism and humor, not because I dont believe it to be true, but because the networks choose to report news as though theyre audience are 10 year olds who cant understand facts without explanation and extreme break-downs of information. Now, the propaganda coming from Russia regarding the Ukraine conflict is nothing short of awe-inspiring. To deny what is painfully obvious (the fact that Russia deployed troops and equipment to Ukrainian soil) is the epitome of a corrupted and propagandized state. In NAZI Germany, the state also spread total propaganda, with little regard for the truth not associated with making Germanys NAZI party look good. Those who searched for truth and real news followed BBC or other allied channels, sneaking radios into basements or attics, so no one would hear the channels they were listening to. That was the only way for the people to get actual news on actual events, with a comparatively high degree of truth in reporting. Those who believed the national news coming from Joseph Goebbels Ministry of Propaganda believed Germany was right, that it could not fail and the allies were the evil ones. Today, in Russia, news is very similar to that of Nazi Germany, with the exception of the internet and access to global news sources, in that anchors and journalists portray Russia and its president as super heroes who are being wronged by the allied west. Just a quick two cents.
