It seems that Conservatives just can’t resist comparing President Obama’s response to this tragedy with Ronald Reagan’s response to a similar event from 1983. In 1983 a Korean Air passenger jet was shot down by the Soviet Union while President Reagan was on vacation. Righties love to point out that Reagan immediately dropped everything, returned to Washington and addressed the nation about the plane crash. But the truth of the matter is that he did no such thing. Reagan initially decided to remain on vacation and say nothing, but after much pressure he opted to cut his planned 25-day vacation a little short. He did return to the White House, but it took him four days before he gave the public address that Conservatives love to highlight.
