It seems that this word has a very broad use prior to some people - TopicsExpress

It seems that this word has a very broad use prior to some people using it as an offensive term and others choosing to be offended by it. For historical reasons it has been used by many nations and regions to refer to the Chinese, way before it reached the UK and way before the word became a racist term. The UK has a number of minority groups that do use this word to refer to the Chinese historically, whether you like it or not... Should for example french people be happy that you refer to their country as Fat Kok in Cantonese? What can they do about it? I honestly suggest you guys move on to another issue, rather than playing victims looking for a attacker. Stopping the use of the word is of little use, those that want to be racist and derogatory will find other means to attack and insult you... The best way to make sure people dont use it, dont show how much it upsets you.
