It seems to me that many seekers lack self-respect, thats why theyre always seeking some guru to worship. If only I could be like ______, then Id be perfect and live in eternal bliss... Were all unique. The sooner we learn to honor and respect that, the happier well be. If you respect yourself, you wont let anyone abuse you, no matter their justification. Any kind of perceived or believed in hierarchy opens the door to such abuses. If you see one as any one higher or lower than another, its as if heaven and earth are set infinitely apart. Its no secret what attrocities have gone on in the name of religion and what horrible actions can be done by those who consider themselves right. Most abusive people feel fully justified--thats what gives them the confidence to abuse. If we come to such a person and we have a low self-opinion, theyll probably sense that and try to feed our insecurities. Our true friends want us to be empowered and happy.
