It seems unreasonable and unjustifiable to push forward a poor-quality manmade beach at a great environmental cost. However, the lack of swimming facilities in Tai Po may just be an excuse to mask the real motive of the project—to pave the way for more development in Ting Kok by turning Lung Mei into a tourism hotspot. Wheelock Properties has already obtained official approval to build a spa hotel near Lung Mei, and another developer has already filed its application to the Town Planning Board to do the same. In anticipation of all these developments, the land-owning indigenous villagers will be reaping sizeable profits—the property prices in the area have already skyrocketed. Coupled with the project to build the second-highest goddess of mercy statue in the nearby Tung Tsz (yes, really), Ting Kok is destined to be “upgraded” as a tourist destination—and the loss of Lung Mei probably just marks the first phase of changes that are to happen in Ting Kok. hk.asia-city/city-living/article/hong-kong-government-plans-build-artificial-beach-new-territories
