It seems we all need a refresher in Art Modell history. When the Gunds and the Jacobs got their sin tax for the Cavs and the Tribe in 1990, Modell was the whiniest crybaby in CLE for years. Wheres MIIIINE???!?! Those of us who are CLE sports fans remember this vividly. This whining Modell did with a gun to our heads - gimme mine, or the Browns go. Thats how the sin tax for Browns Stadium got on the ballot and passed. None of that kept Modell from leaving town right before the election for the sin tax he begged for. For those who want to say this is ancient history, well, then so is this chumps deal, because thats how our countys finances got tied up in this garbage. May 6s sin tax is the legacy of Art Modell, pure and simple. To perpetuate it, without seeing a single iota of the teams finances, ability to pay more rent, revenue from the scoreboards they have gone to the mat for, while we hand them naming rights by the tens of millions of dollars...if Charles Dickens wrote this himself his editors would dismiss it as too absurd even for his pen.
