"It stemmed from the organization’s ideological neo-Nazi background, from its founders’ beliefs and perceptions. It survived for decades in the margins of political life as an adversarial formation and in recent years it developed according to violent archetypes. Armed with violence against foreigners it garnered support in the city center of Athens, it increased its influence amongst the indignant and angered people with its violent attacks ‘on the air’ and entered Parliament on the promise that it would to beat up the MPs from the other parties, while it used the attacks against minorities and political parties to create a myth that a party of bullies will solve our country’s problems! It was mathematically certain that this investment in violence would eventually result in a critical event, like the one in Amfiali. Pavlos Fyssas’ murder from a cowardly knife-wielding thug was enough to reveal the inherent problematic nature of the neo-Nazi gang and to reveal to the Greek society that “the boys in black” do not just protect old women from the “bad” immigrants, but they kick, beat up, extort and occasionally stab anyone they consider their enemy. Now they cry about their rights, attempt to make naïve political distractions and it is clear that they have no plan and they are simply paying for their involvement in the despicable cycle of bloody violence. The various ambitious little leaders and foolish reserve officers should not delude themselves. Modern Greece will not accept violence; it chose to walk the peaceful path of democracy decades ago and will continue to walk that path in the future." - Greek paper To Vima on the political purge of Golden Dawn
