It suits the Religious Right to claim that people of faith are an ideological monolith, prepared to do battle in the trenches of culture war. But that is not reality. Reality is that for most believers, their religious identities aren’t defined by the desire to discriminate or by their opposition to marriage equality. The Religious Right doesn’t represent “people of faith.” It represents some people of faith -- a shrinking subsection of the American population that treats belief less as a personal identity and more as a weapon.
