It takes a lot of courage to re position a voice. When a voice is - TopicsExpress

It takes a lot of courage to re position a voice. When a voice is held and produced from the throat, the singer rarely REALLY wants to let it go. It feels powerful to them - and loud. Somehow this is enough. Even if they cant do anything else with the nuance of sound, they still hold on tight. The new voice feels weak, breathy and underdeveloped. Indeed it is - this part of their voice has been over-ridden for years and needs to build itself up. The reluctance to embrace and work with the new sound often heralds a crisis in personality and identity - who are they without the volume, the push and the effort? Working and allowing the new voice is like walking into No Mans Land for a while - you dont know which way to go, towards the new technique or run and hide in the old one. When you are brave enough to go towards, the most amazing sounds start to come from your mouth and little by little the quality and sophistication of what you can communicate with your voice will stir others into listening to you. Be brave singers - theres more of you than just loud!
