It takes a village? No, it takes a small CITY! The first three performance events of the AWC National are in the books (agility/AKC coursing/ASFA coursing) and as I was chair for two of them, I want to send my plaudits and thank yous to the myriad people who helped this weekend of coursing in Marylands beautiful hunt country to be such a success. We had four great judges in Beth Levine, Aaron Todd Miller, Tom Cigolle, and Jeff Bedrick. After a few necessary late substitutions on the huntmastering and lure operating front, our final lineup combined Head Lure Operator Tom Smith, with John Arvin, Diana Darling, Rick Conta, and the INVALUABLE Joe Shoemaker. Our exceptional Field Trial Secretaries were Audrey Silverstein for AKC and Ping Pirrung for ASFA--both luminaries in their positions. They were ably assisted each day by volunteer field clerks. Parking Coordinator Carl Gregory Morgan got everyone a nice spot for their rigs, which was much needed as I dont know nuthin bout parking no Class A Motorhomes. Grounds Chair Terri Deluca made sure we werent ankle deep in dog pooh by keeping plenty of poop bags and buckets handy. My incredible head paddock mistress, Deb Hanna, ably assisted by National Show Chair Cindy Scott kept everyone informed so they could be ready for their runs in time. Our catalogs were beautiful--thank you, Lisa Ochoa--I have a few left so see me tomorrow coursing folks about that if you want one for a co-owner who was not able to be there. Our hospitality ladies, Susan Pringle Fredericks and daughter Anna brought an array of delicious lunch and breakfast options to insure that we stayed nourished and hydrated throughout the day. Brian McHugh...helping to pack up today, along with Joe, Rick, and Carl--you have no idea how grateful I am. To be left alone on the field with mountains of heavy stuff, disgusting trash, and no good way to load it would have killed me, but you were there. THANK YOU!!! We had a lot of people helping with inspection in the morning--you know who you are and we are so grateful for your helping hand with getting all the Whippets checked in in such a timely fashion. In hindsight, there are a few things I personally would do differently, but the one thing I absolutely would not change is my awesome committee. Our people rocked it, and I thank all of you, for doing what needed doing, when I needed you to do it. Winners and scoresheets have been posted--I saw a lot of amazing Whippets do amazing things, but I still say that our people were the GREATEST aspect of these trials, so I raise my virtual AWC Logo Travel Mug Sippy Cup to you, and cheers to all of us for a great TEAM effort! Now, let the obedience and triathlon/versatility conformation games begin!
