It took a five hours long debate, but yesterday, overwhelmingly, Westminster passed a motion recognizing the state of Palestine, 274 - 12. Unsurprisingly, Cameron was against it. Unsurprisingly, even Haaretz called it of little significance, because the motion is non binding. It has, however, a lot of significance: statehood needs recognition to be politically legitimate, and this motion indicates the willingness of the UK legislature to advance a process that had stalled for too long. Europarl should do the same, post-haste.
