It took a while to set up the support system for the Shaheed Parivaars. As most of these families have been suffering in poverty a sudden income of huge sums of cash would have caused many problems within the family and the neighbourhood. So a system of monthly pensions was set up. This allowed our team to visit the elderly folks on regular basis and make sure any of their medical/ welfare needs are also discussed directly. The logistics involved in this project are immense as the families are scattered all over Panjab. The number of new families we keep finding are not a surprise. In the last 5 days alone we have found 3 more families, inc the family of Darra Singh who attained Shaheedi in Darbar Sahib in June 1984. As the winter approaches the rebuilds of the houses for these families will slow down, we have 4 urgent rebuilds but the weather will cause considerable delay. We also had to restructure our team in Panjab as other KA projects are also expanding, a Managing Director will be appointed very soon who will oversee all the projects. As KA is primarily an international relief organisation, our global projects will be expanding too. 2014 will be the year the Sikh world remembers the 30 years of the attack in June 1984. KA will remember it by considerably setting up the search for these families all over Panjab. Our commitment to these families continues.
