It was 60 years ago tonight, when Elvis Presleys first record, Thats All Right (Mama) and Blue Moon of Kentucky was played on the radio for the very first time. It was played by disc-jockey Dewey Philllips on WHBQ-AM in Memphis, Tennessee. The story goes that, after the record was played, the phone lit up like a Christmas tree as Dewey played one side of the record, then flipped it over and played the other side. He played the record over and over for the rest of the night. Eventually, Elvis was contacted to come into the station for an interview. Even though Elvis first record never made the national record charts, it peaked at #3 on the local Memphis chart. And the rest, as they say, is history. youtu.be/GLfZA6aFv5g
