It was 9 AM. I had fixed myself a cup of tea and a bagel in the condo suite of the equipment financing firm where I was a sales representative. I was making my somewhat robotic calls from my database, when I reached a woman who was used to being regularly harangued by me for her capital equipment purchases. Bonnie...you need to stop making calls and put the television on. She hung up. My boss noticed my incredulous expression and asked what she said. I told her. She said that we should then put the tv on, so we did. The first plane had hit and it was largely considered a terrible accident. While we were talking about the devastation, the second plane hit the second tower. I absolutely buckled and fell to the floor, weeping and sobbing. I quit my job on the spot and rushed home to bake cookies and be with my family. Our children were still CHILDREN and were in school. I woke Phil. I told him that i quit my job and that Im sure many people will do the same. We held each other, cried, made love , and resolved that we would refocus. I didnt take another full time position ever again. I have loved every job i have had since then. I have made a point of being a part of my community, and my friends, but mostly, I gained a new respect for family.
