It was June 11 1988. I was in London and decided to go to Wembley to see one concert. Of course I did not have the ticket, so I hung out at the back entrance to see if I could sneak as one of the "crew" (?)... While waiting for my lucky moment, a black limousine arrived and an old man stepped out. Everybody started to clap their hands and sing "Free Nelson mandela". There he was, after 25 years in prison, to participate at a concert held in his honour. He started to shake hands with the crowd and so he shook mine. He then looked at me in a way to say "..e on, tell me!" and I asked: "Mr. Mandela, how did you do? how could you resist?" He held my hands tight and replied: "Thanks to your support!" Few years later, I boarded a flight from Taipei to Kuala Lumpur and noticed an unusual security task... "The President is on board" told me a stewardess. It was only after we took off tha a journalist seated beside me confirmed that the new President of South Africa boarded the flight after an official visit to Taiwan. I then asked the cabin crew if I could meet him and, after about half an hour I had my personal meeting granted. He stood up, we shook hand and he asked me for which journal did I write for. "Mr. Mandela, I am not a journalist. I am one of the fans you shook hand with at Wembley, 6 years ago, before the concert." "Well, how can I help you?" he asked. "Actually I wanted to thank you for the strong message you gave me! It was a lesson that changed my life! Thank You Mr. President!!!!" Now, 25 years later, I want to say again: "THANK YOU MR. PRESIDENT!" 10, 100, 1000 Mandela!
