It was a better time, the lamp , was the same lamp that was bought for 12.00, and stayed with us for years, the wine glasses were kept in a box on the shelf for 11.9 months of the year and only brought out for the holidays. Things were not disposable they were family and they remained with us for years. The Xmas tree angel stayed with us until her breasts fell off, metal as they were, and made in usa not china. Xmas lights replaced bulb by bulb and had some old tinsel on them, not the vinyl kind the old lead type tinsel that is probably now outlawed. The trees all came from Butchie boy, will sell you a corner tree for 7.00 and not screw you so bad as you are family. Just had to stick it in a corner so you would not see the bare spots. It was a better time. The furniture stayed the same year after year, was not from walmart, ornaments the same year after year , we never wanted new ones, as the old ones were so familiar. Scratches in them, made them that much more noteworthy as each scratch was a remembrance of a previous Xmas. Xmas eve consisted of going to midnite mass, coming home, and opening the major presents. Eating sausage and peppers and potatoes, and loving each other in a way that we kind of bypassed during the year. It all seems so long ago and so out of reach . Watching Alistar Simms, and the yule log... But I will have an old fashioned Xmas this year, look at my private Santa, and stroke his beard, and those old ornaments will shine in my memory, that old angel will regrow her tits, and I will experience a real Xmas for the first time in 15 years.
