It was a delightful experience listening to Dr Krishna Gopal, Joint General Secretary, RSS who I had heard much about but got the unique opportunity at the Changing Indian Scenario conference. In a nutshell, he described why India was in a unique position to give a refreshingly new direction to economic growth - different from the consumer economies or the socialist economies. If, the internal policies were driven to engage the internal resources judiciously and efficiently. It has enough land to meet the entire worlds food requirements - currently India uses only 33% of its fertile land. It has enough resources to generate energy for the entire South Asian region and sustain that for over a century. It has wide and diverse talents to support a range of industries. Sadly the policies were limited by weaker decisions and meeker plans. He was hopeful that Modi Government will break the barriers and cast a whole new direction. Along side Jayant Sinha was direct enough to ask the Chartered Accountants to be faithful to India and disengage from any financial misappropriation. He also highlighted that there could be no corruption if the certified accountants did not get involved and if they ensured that taxes were duly paid to the Government. Currently just 3 crore people file Income Tax returns and over a half of them are tax exempt!
