It was a long long night. I dreamed of pulling up in the car to pick up the girl. She was jumping rope with friends, Look at this, Mama! Watch me! Her bobbed brown hair, Her request to have it fashioned after Lucy the lion lover from Narnia, her little cowlick in front sticking things up. She jumped into the game I watched her. She smiled so big She smiled so big She smiled so big I called her name and she smiled and waved. I reached out to her and called her name and she smiled and waved and signed, I love you. Each time I called, each time I reached Further away and further Until I woke up Wailing and moaning and shaking and rocking Wanting her back wanting her back wanting her back pounding headache screamy scooped out belly wailing right where my solar plexus should be a hole a hole a hole. She smiled so big Is less of a comfort than I ought to let it be.
