It was a neat Thanksgiving, no worries, no concerns... we had the whole routine down pat. Nik was brilliant this year in that we started cooking and prepping two days early which made the day itself a much lighter load. Clean up was still a bear, but weve had three shifts hit the kitchen tonight, another shift will start up in a bit. Rather than worrying about what traditions to blend, keep, or start in our wonderfully mixed family, we did the things that worked, and discussed how it might work in a few years when kids are in their own houses. They even decided who was bringing what to the feast. But we were clear that it was not important to us that we host, or even see everyone on Thanksgiving as people will have their own families in years to come. So today I am thankful for kids that are aging well, and no one going nuts about what HAS to be. In other news, props to Academy Sports for being closed today. I know it is a big deal for some people that Walmart is open on Thanksgiving, but Walmart is sort of like a gas station for me, it is an emergency stop that I can depend on to be open at all hours, and within 30 minutes of where ever I am, even as I cross the desolate plains in the Midwest at odd hours.
