It was a typical bandh day in Calcutta. Not risking my car I hopped on to the only available and rather crowded CSTC bus to reach office in Saltlake. Only to realise my wallet had been flicked. Much to my surprise after 2 hours I got a call from the traffic guard at Chingrihata that a pickpocket had been caught with a wallet containing my contact details. Relieved...I rushed...to be redirected to the SAI camp PS at Saltlake Stadium hidden by dense undergrowth. Yawning officers on duty handed me over an empty wallet which had about 7k that was happily pinched. Disgusted I wrote a General Diary and left as they declined to take an FIR. This was 2008. Cut to 6 years later I get a summon order from the court yesterday for a case of theft slapped on me u/s 379. As incredulous as it gets I had to spend good money and time with lawyers today to find out why Ive been criminalised... only to realise Ive been summoned for reporting theft of my own wallet!! That too after more than half a decade!! I bow to this system... Poriborton much??
