It was a very tragic, senseless & cold blooded murder of the 2 Navajo homeless men by the teenagers who were out and about when they came upon the homeless people and decided to take out their frustration on them, especially when they were sleeping. One is believed to be a mentally ill who has a pattern of attacking vulnerable people and may have been the ring leader. Our condolences go out to their families. I hope other families who know of their loved ones who are drifting around and living a homeless life in a city like ABQ or other towns could do all they can in getting help for them. Each year, the number of homeless among Native Americans is growing in our state. One of the platforms for tribal leaders could be to meet more often w/ city, county and state officials to work collaboratively and proactively on issues of importance including how to deal w/ their own tribal homeless people who are drifting in the city/town and not wait until a tragic and inhumane incident occurs. Im aware that Mayor Berry instituted some plans over the winter months to keep homeless people from the dangers of freezing from the cold winter nights and that, to me, was a proactive stance, not a reaction to incidents that seems to always be the case.
