It was an early am....I think I was up at 4am as usual. Had to wAke kaylee at 6am to get us to the ferry before 730 for 8am trip to straddy or north stradbroke island. She wanted some pancakes from mcdonalds which was fine but which involved me driving in the exit of the drive thru. I realized it just as I entered so there wasnt an incident but she got a great laugh out of it. And that girl can eat a pancake. The trip to the island started w a surreal drive to a deserted part of the island w 4 wheel only access. I didnt take the BMW on the beach...but we walked to the water and couldnt see a soul for miles. We went back to point lookout and main beach and frenchmans beach. I cannot actually remember the last time I was in the ocean. Its been a long time . Amazing how it removes your stress and just takes your energy. Hope not too much for trip home tomorrow. Had lunch at a great restaurant called Tillers and begged them to make her a chicken sandwich in the least inviting manner w the fewest ingredients possible. Grilled chicken pieces dry atop a toasted bun worked great. She calmed she would eat the salad it came with if they had ranch dressing which they did not. She did find room for a choc milkshake and I found room for the overage in the steel cup. We played in the tidal pools w kaylee surveying the life inside each. She took inventory of each one. She climbed all over the rocks that I was sure would lead to injury but we dodged a bullet there. We had to climb hundreds of stairs up the cliff of point lookout to get off frenchmans beach. I passed 10k steps on them while threatening to have her drive herself back to the hotel. She got to buy her own drinks (mine too) on the last two stops. Shes been feeling way comfortable but gets a little shy. Was good for her. Found a great shop of quality local things....she picked out some great stuff....and has her favourite to take home. Its another hour back to the hotel off the ferry. Out laundry is done. Some packing tonight and dinner and to bed. Its back on the plane at 8pm sat night for you east coasters. We fly Brisbane Sydney LAX Atlanta Jax all on Sunday for us. And I get up Monday am and head back to DC! Sorry for it to be over. I have an amazing niece, the blessings to be able to share travel. And an awesome life. Thanks for sharing all of this with us!
