It was at Bogart’s, a cool little venue in Long Beach that we used to hang out at back in college, that I caught Texas rocker Joe Ely and was mesmerized by the dude to his side who kept belting out the sweetest riffs on the saxophone. It sounded oh, so familiar. And soon a friend hollered over the music, “Sticky Fingers!” as it donned on the rest of us that it was Bobby Keys, of Rolling Stones fame. We didn’t have smartphones back then, so I can’t share that particular performance, but when I heard Bobby Keys died today I dug around and found this one thats worth sharing. Toss back a shot of Tennessee whiskey in his honor.
