It was called to my attention yesterday that a homeless gentleman was killed the day of our event. While this may not have been one of the people that we were able to aide that day just think that we had the potential of affecting the last moments of someones life. We could have been the last gesture of a humane world that this individual was approached with. What we are doing here Detroits Chosen is unexampled. I know that as president I have asked so much of you as members, this I will not apologize for but I will express my uttermost gratitude. When embarking upon this journey of feeding Detroits forgotten, I was admittedly apprehensive. I had no idea of the support that we would receive, I had no way of gauging how our efforts would be perceived and I was cautious if this was the best way to impact our community as a whole. There has been a vicious picture painted of our homeless population. With my interaction I saw a beautiful people, a people of hope of kindness and a people that we can not turn our back on. We learned of how the Detroit fire department puts their fire out, the only heat that they have. We learned from them of the best ways that we can help them to survive. We put a bandage on a hurt by providing meals, but what was more overwhelming was the amount of people that asked me, Do you know of anyone hiring?. Detroits Chosen there is a reason that this is the name of our group. Lets be the beckoning of a movement. I want to thank each and every person that supported us either financially, with donations, or with being present. I would like to thank those who werent able to help us on this event but whose hearts were there with us. I would like to welcome those who were at the event and not officially part of Detroits Chosen - this is a family that whos doors are open to you. If I could wish you anything Detroits Chosen it would be to see yourself through my eyes then you would really realize how much I love and appreciate you.
