It was in the spring semester of my first year of college (2010) during Bethel’s World Christian Action conference that I heard God calling my name to serve in missions with Wycliffe Bible Translators. The main speaker for the conference was Marilyn Laszlo, a single woman who dedicated her whole life to the call of God to bring the Bible to the Bibleless people of Papua New Guinea (PNG). It was her story that inspired me to step out in faith and travel with Wycliffe to the highlands of PNG that following summer. Who knew I would find my heart in the far corner of the world in the village of Pari, Papua New Guinea? It was there where my heart grew in the call to bring the Bible to the small villages of PNG with language groups of less than 500 people. These groups that are considered less of a priority than larger language groups have been burning in my heart over the years. There is not a day that goes by when I do not think of those the world will never know, who still need to know their Savior, Jesus through the Word of God. Approximately 209 million people in the world do not have the Bible in their heart language. Too often I take for granted the opportunity I have to read and study God’s Word every day in a language that I understand. On June 25, 2013, I was accepted as a member of Wycliffe Bible Translators. Over the next year I will be taking steps towards fulfilling God’s call to bring the Bible to the Bibleless.
