It was just after dark. We had just ordered a pizza and my 2-3 yr old son Brad was with me. It was at the old Hungry Howies on Hwy 60 (now Dollar General). Im not sure what I did, but somehow I got distracted & let go of his little hand. He took off running straight for Hwy 60 laughing & giggling. At the same time an oncoming semi was heading through a green light at full speed. I ran after him, but by the time I would have caught him it would be too late. He reached the side walk & stopped, turned to me still smiling & giggling. When I reached him & scooped him up in my arms I didnt know whether to squeeze him to death or give him a spanking for running. It is by the Grace of God that he stopped running. I made a great mistake allowing anything to happen other than having his hand. It however was a mistake. I will always remember it like it was yesterday. Im thankful he is now 14 & almost 6 ft tall. There may be times to judge people & things to judge people for, this weekends tragic accident & mistake is not one of them. It is only by the Grace of God that all of us didnt have a mistake like the above cost us dearly.
