It was moonscape for most of the trip south. Kilometer after - TopicsExpress

It was moonscape for most of the trip south. Kilometer after kilometer of sand dunes and desert, with various cities sprouting up in a valley here and there. As we drew closer to the center of the country vegetation finally started to appear, low shrubs and trees amidst glowing orange boulders. And always the ocean peering its head around the corner here and there in the form of a bay or an inlet tucked away in some cluster of green hills. Nice waves. Some paintings courtesy of the local artists of Santiago, Chile. Have you ever felt so dirty that you feel as if the only clean part of you are your two eyes glowing amidst a floating cloud of filth? I have spent months camping out in the middle of wilderness, but never have i felt as dirty as i did after two weeks of living in buses, hostels and travel terminals. I arrived into Santiago, Chile, a bustling metropolitan city , in the evening and goggled for a bit at all the peole rushing about around me. This was the first time i felt like i had actually gone somewhere during this trip so far. I am not sure why exactly, but In Peru i still felt like i was in America even though everyone looked differently and spoke a different language. Perhaps cause here it is farther south and colder, it feels different. My bus didnt leave till the morning and my friend who lived here was out of town, so i took the evening to explore the city for a little bit. It was a night tour so, my observations where limited but i was impressed by the quality of the art that adorned the sides of the buildings and bus stops. I thought his one looked like the Sanskrit "OM" symbol.
