It was my distinct pleasure and privilege today to promote my student and son, Phyllip Parsons to the rank of 1st Degree Black Belt in the art of Chinese Kenpo. It happened at the TKI Annual BBQ with old and new students and family and friends present. Everyone knew the promotion was going to take place, except Phyl! Phyl is only the second person promoted to the rank of Black Belt in the twelve year history of Triangle Kenpo. It was a double pleasure to be promoting my son to this rank. Its been a hard fought battle with ups and downs, Phyl, but the fun has just begun. As a gift I gave Phyl my own personal hard-bound special edition copy of The Tao of Jeet Kune Do by Bruce Lee, purchased by me in 1976. The book is full of my own highlights and margin notes reflecting my own martial arts journey over the years. Phyl grew up seeing me reading and writing in this book. It is now his to add to as he sees fit. I also presented to each of my two Black Belts, Walt Heckman and Phyl Parsons, a set of samurai swords to reflect my appreciation of the hard work and dedication they have shown over the years at TKI. A symbol of the warrior class to the two men that have reflected a warrior mindset in their pursuit of being quality martial artists Deep Respects to you both, Sifu Bill Parsons
