It was on this date in 1917 that the steamer Louis Hill was launched at Lorain OH. The ship eventually became a museum at the Soo, but do you know who Louie was? Teased by the newspapers, this millionaire owned 25,000 miles of railroads, a line of steamships, and he lobbied (and paid) to make Glacier National Park. The steamer in his name would also ceremoniously open the second century of operations at the Soo Locks in 1955.
