It was one year ago that Maxi was chief puppy sitter for Bess aka Aubrey! What a year it has been. Ive just deleted the pics off my phone so it can function again and these would be two of my favourites. Partly because puppies are such fun and partly because my old black dog is so precious! We had a scare last week with Max. Freshly back from an awesome dog holiday and 15th Birthday party for Fraser we were all feeling great. The morning after we got home Max was very sick. He went out as usual at about 5am and by 7am he had been sick. He wouldnt move for Tim but got up for me. I watched him for ten minutes trying to decide whether he needed a vet or whether I was jumping the gun. He was in terrible discomfort and I feared he had an obstruction. In typical Max fashion he had chomped one of NN bones as soon as we got home. As I bundled him in the car I feared the worst and cried the whole way to the vet. I cry so rarely that I think I scare people when Im upset! We were at the vet before they opened and Casey greeted me with a box of tissues. I knew what Max had been through last time and had decided if I was going to lose him I just wanted him to be comfortable, for his pain to be gone. DOGter David didnt think he felt obstructed but asked if we wanted to do X-rays to be sure. Knowing bone would show up on X-ray we had them done and thankfully there was no obstruction, just lots of gas. The verdict was he probably had a low grade pancreatitis so with some pain relief, anti vomiting agent and antibiotics we were sent home to rest. A few days later Max was well and just goes to show that even dogs can have too much of a good thing! I couldnt really post about it last week because I really believed he was in trouble and the truth is I couldnt face losing my best doggy friend and LabraDOG Lodges Chief Executive Dog. Onwards and upwards, bring on birthday number 13 Maxi!
