It was only since TV arrived that I first became humbled by the abilities that people often as young as six had. It also made me realize the amazing capabilities of the human nervous system - how quickly it masters several languages and musical abilities from scratch and within as short a period as, say, five years. I was watching an interview with the teenage Nobel Laureate Malala Yousafzai from 2013 - when she was just 16. Thanks to the internet, I was able to see this. If not, I would never have believed that children as young as this would be capable of such maturity, wisdom, fluency of articulation and humour. Listening to her, I really began to feel that if our politicians, religious leaders, judges, bureaucrats and the media anchors could only be half as wise as this teenager, the world would be a far better place to live in. It is even possible that humans lose their wisdom as they get older. In Malalas case, thanks to her precocious abilities to articulate and assert her presence in the world of grownups, her wisdom could be exposed. I do hope that we - the grownups - will not corrupt her as she gets older.
