It wasnt just a red letter day for Ringfort Downpatrick (as seen in this weeks Horse and Hound) - it was a whole red letter week-end for Ringfort horses! A lovely picture and write-up for Ringfort Downpatrick as he swept the boards with lightweight, open, and supreme hunter titles, and secured his ticket to HOYS in his first qualifier. While we do not set out to breed show horses, it does confirm that what we breed has perfect conformation before they (usually) go on to perform in show-jumping, dressage or eventing...so we are delighted with this win for him. Following our policy of stealing a foal from a filly before she goes into training this was the first living foal from Ringfort Rara Ruby - before she went on to become an International 3* eventer. At the week-end too Ringfort Rubicon, her six year old by Iroko, was stepping up the grades to compete in his first CCI1* in the Three Day International at Camphire. Against all the odds, as one of only two six-year olds to make it through dressage and cross-country to the show-jumping phase (along with Steven Smiths other ride, Gina Johnsons Hill Drummer) Rubicon finished 7th out of the 36 entries (Hill Drummer 8th - a brilliant performance on the two youngest horses in the class, by Steven). Im a bit pleased!
