It would be one thing to assign the students to go through the medicine cabinet with a parent and remove expired or unnecessary medications, discuss the uses for what is in there and the dangers of using them inappropriately, etc. Then report on the discussion to the class on what they learned about medications, safety, and drug abuse. An information sheet about what should be in a familys medicine cabinet, and why; how to store medications so children dont get into them, etc. would be a good lesson and a great family project. But that does not appear to be what the assignment was, nor what it was intended to do. It looks like a fishing project and an invasion of privacy. I would have had a fit and refused to have my child participate!!
