Italy took over the presidency of the EU Council July 1, 2014. Italy took over the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union from Greece. Italy will take a leading role with regards to the EU affairs for the upcoming six months. To mark this day, a flag hoisting ceremony was held at EUPOL HQ in Kabul and the Italian flag was raised next to the EU and Afghan flags. Every six months, an EU member state has the responsibility to assume the Presidency of the Council of the EU. Currently eleven Italian experts are working at EUPOL mission, five of them are policemen and six others are civilians.
