Its Felix Hoppe-Seyler Birthday born 26 December 1825 in Freyburg an der Unstrut-and died August 10, 1895 in Wasserburg am Bodensee, he was a doctor chemist and pioneer physiologist biochemistry (physiological chemistry). It is the precursor of molecular biology and one of the founders of biochemistry. He studied many bodily fluids and / or biological fluids including blood, hemoglobin, pus, bile, milk and urine. Felix Hoppe-Seyler noticed two well-separated bands of the absorption spectrum of the red blood pigment which he named Haemoglobin. He studied blood chemistry and urine using the new spectroscopy technique He showed that the oxidation reactions between hemoglobin, oxygen and carbon monoxide were in the tissue rather than the blood itself. He proceeded to the crystallization of hemoglobin and confirmed the presence of iron. He discovers methemoglobin. He eté the first to report the presence of cholesterol in the blood by the year 1866. He also studied chlorophyll and was the first to prepare the lecithin in pure form. He invented the word proteid, now replaced by the protein. He also studied bile acids, lipid metabolism, quantification and classification of proteins and nucleic acids. He introduced new methods of physicochemical analysis and laid the pathophysiological bases of respiratory diseases. He isolated lecithin and determined its chemical formula. In 1877 he was one of the founders of the Zeitschrift für Chemie Physiologische (Journal of Physiological Chemistry) and he was the first editor until his death in 1895. His work was continued by Paul Ehrlich, his collaborators and his pupils Friedrich Miescher (1844-1895) and Albrecht Kossel (1853-1927) it was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1910. Their work has advanced considerable science of organic chemistry. Photo Copyleft
