Its Friday and we know we have missed a few feel good nominations - TopicsExpress

Its Friday and we know we have missed a few feel good nominations recently, so when this nomination came in, it reminded us that some feel good nominations just need to be shared Across the pond at the Green Bay Police Department, Officer Joel Zwicky has been going above and beyond in a very big way to bring his community together... Officer Joel Zwicky coached my son, Jack (age 6), and a few dozen other local kids (all of whom are on the autism spectrum) this past weekend in how to skateboard. The WOW that I want to highlight has very little to do with skateboarding itself, but rather with forging a meaningful bond between two seemingly disparate communities within Green Bay; the autism community and the indoor skateboarding community. Officer Zwicky not only forged a burgeoning relationship with each of the kids he worked with at this event, but he sparked a lasting bond within our community by introduced two seemingly unlikely bedfellows, who would have never connected so fully and beautifully without last weekend’s event. Officer Zwicky didn’t just get us all to the skate park; he also did the hard work of literally running miles alongside my child and others, gently coaxing timid fear into comfort and into taking new risks. Officer Zwicky put everyone at ease, kids and parents alike. It was an ABSOLUTE GIFT to see the kids having such a great time and to see so many SMILING/BEAMING parents of autistic kids in one place. That was an unusual sight and a super added bonus! My heart was profoundly touched. Thank you Officer Zwicky! The result of Officer Zwicky’s initiative is HUGE! The community bonding forged will likely lead to more positive experiences for all involved in the coming New Year and beyond. Parents of autistic kids really do need the help of the proverbial “village” to ensure that their kids are received well in the community. Officer Zwicky has definitely helped to this end with more “WOW!” than he could possibly know.
