Its Friendly Friday! If youre new to Humans of Portland, on Fridays, I like to encourage everyone to take part in a discussion to help us remember to connect more authentically with those around us whether it be online or face-to-face. This past week I attended an engaging discussion on Photography and Fear with some of my peers. One of the topics that came up was approaching strangers. Turns out this is a big one for most people. Believe it or not, its hard for me too, somedays more than others. Why is it that we are so afraid to talk to one another? For me, some days I simply dont have the energy to reach outside myself because of various things going on in my personal life. Another common fear is that well be rejected. And further, that rejection will somehow validate our own doubts about our self-worth. What are your thoughts? What keeps you from talking to strangers?
