Its Funny Friday! As this trailer shows, the War of 1812 is often treated as an obscure war that few people remember. In truth, the war started as a result of the Napoleonic Wars in Europe. The United States declared itself neutral and continued to ship goods to both France and Great Britain. British ships, though, would often stop American vessels and impress their crews. Impressment basically amounted to the kidnapping of US sailors and forcing them to join the Royal Navy. When the United States declared war on Great Britain in June 1812, Free Trade and Sailors Rights soon became a rallying cry.
