Its Graduation Day!! Today I receive my virtual diploma at the Rehab Institute of Chicago. I have now officially rehabbed from my liver transplant. This lofty accomplishment will be listed on any future resume (even though Im not in a job search). Impressive endeavors have been sorely lacking over the last few years. I plan to wear my Sashay hat like a mortarboard, hurl it into the air at the graduations conclusion, and then pop a wheelie in my wheelchair before proudly departing the premises. Before all this happens, I have the distinct pleasure of going to my dentist for a teeth cleaning. Seems this is a bacterial requirement for pre-surgery. Its certainly important to me! I want my breath to be minty fresh for my surgeon--hoping hell remain thoroughly happy with me during the entire operation. I am, of course, taking all of this much more seriously than Im letting on. Its only three days till I am potentially coasting downhill toward a complete recovery. I cant help but be wired. Ive opted to bury myself in busy-ness this weekend. Im even getting a haircut on Saturday to follow through on my new beginnings mind games. Its funny how Im consciously doing little things to try to trick myself into being more positive over the next few weeks. After all, this really is a chance to make alterations in my course--to fine-tune my approach to life. When I became overwhelmed by my liver failure and I knew I would have to be rescued by forces beyond my control--I began wondering when or if life would develop a rhythm again. I yearned for a time when life became like breathing--when I stopped thinking out every move I made and just let life unfurl with the consistency of rolling waves. Well, Im getting there. Things feel more steady, and Ive literally and figuratively regained some balance. Im Tim Simer again, and I think I almost like the guy. Well, almost...
