Its Saturday, which just means things at the Glen Workshop get twice as exciting. This morning at 8 a.m. I met with my mentor, Paula Houston, to chart the course of my next several essays and readings. I visited the Glen Film Seminar, where Gareth Higgins and Scott Teems brought their brilliant program of artful cinema to a grand conclusion with clips from international cinema and then a full showing of a true masterpiece: THE MUPPET MOVIE. And, of course, I sang along and cried. I attended the graduate readings of Melissa Smith, Matthew Slye, Howard Schaap, and Callie Feyen, and I learned that I have to work harder to achieve the stellar heights of these fine writers. Then, a long talk by the koi pond with Pete Horner, during which Linford Detweiler challenged us to dream up *another* song title for Over the Rhine. The graduation ceremony always moves me, but this time even more so, as I realized how swiftly time flies while were in this MFA program, and as I began to say some significant goodbyes to new friends. Whats up next? Were in the front row for tonights Over the Rhine concert, sitting with Scott Cairns and Tara & Brian Owens. Then, a closing worship service with Fr. Richard Rohr. And while Anne joins the dance party, Ill go to work on my annual physical/spiritual discipline of helping Warren Farha box up the books from Eighth Day Bookstore.
