Its Throwback Thursday and our throwback is not an easy or painless one to discuss, but a necessary one just the same. Please bare with us while we get the word out. Cast amongst the broken toys, broken bulbs and leftover Christmas lights are a few broken down young mama dogs who had their bodies raided for Christmas pups and then were cast out, abandoned like empty toy boxes. We have 3 Christmas moms to tell you about. All are thin, arrived very timid and at least one has been looking for her pups. These girls represent some of the finest reasons to rescue a shelter dog, to bridge them to the life they deserve and they deserve special people, people who can understand what theyve been through. If youre in a position to adopt, great, we hope youll consider them in your short list. Or perhaps you are in a position to foster. Or you may be a volunteer, a public dog walker, a visitor or a well wisher. So many ways to help. Stop by and share time with them, or share this post with others to get their stories out there so that down the road, we might see how a dog like Pearl becomes all she is able to be. Maybe shell be a therapy dog like former abused shelter dog Baby or maybe shell save her owner from a fire like one of our Hard Luck Hounds did. Our first Christmas mom-volunteers named her Pearl and shes in kennel 108. She arrived on Jan 6th.Volunteer Rae met her first: I came across this sweet mama dog who had just come into the shelter. She was clearly overwhelmed and I was informed she is very gentle. As I stood petting her gently in a t-touch manner, she leaned her head into my leg, at one point closing her eyes. She appears to have recently had puppies, with teets hanging and seemingly still producing milk. Kept her tail tucked and walked very slowly with gentle encouragement by barking neighbors. I sat outside her kennel and spoke softly to her, to help her settle in. She remained calm, even as I took photos of her. I dropped a soft stuffed toy on her bed, and after a bit she finally cuddled up on her bed with the toy. This girl, with her calm demeanor and gentle ways really touched me. Please share a kind word or a treat with this girl with the horribly butchered ears. Pearl was horribly shut down and depressed for her first few days, not even wanting to pick up her head. Were grateful she is faring a bit better now but it will take time to heal her heart and soul. Pearl is estimated to be 5 yrs young and has a life in front of her that hasnt even started yet. Thank you for reading and we hope you will consider sharing her story.
