Its a good one today, kids: Iggy Pops arguably most successful record, the adrenaline-rush-to-the-head Lust For Life was released today in the middle of the 1977 punk explosion. The second collaboration with David Bowie (following on the heels of the previous years The Idiot), Lust For Life proved Pop could exist outside the Stooges. Lust For Life staggers like the guy whos too drunk at the party, constantly threatening to fall apart at any moment but never does. The first side is as good of a side of any rock record that was ever made - Lust For Life, Sixteen, Some Weird Sin, The Passenger and Tonight - but the pick to click is the lurching beast that is Lust For Life, a paean to heroin so seductive and powerful corporate America couldnt help but appropriate it even if they didnt understand what it meant. Turn this up REAL LOUD. If that opening drum beat doesnt get you, check your pulse, man, because you are dead inside:
