Its about time the medical community started doing independent studies on vaccines. I have yet to see any substantial (read: sizable enough to be found credible) study done at an arms length from a conflicted financier. This is a good start. The only randomized trial of influenza vaccine in older people found no decrease in deaths. “This means that influenza vaccines are approved for use in older people despite any clinical trials demonstrating a reduction in serious outcomes, Im not saying vaccines are bad, OR that they are good - whats clear is that we dont have honest data to make that decision. Whether you are pro-vax or anti-vax, you should be demanding our government separate the companies that stand to profit from their sale from the research that is done surrounding them. This is THE ONLY tangible barrier that stands in the way of the people who choose not to take them. This study is the tip of an iceberg and clearly makes a case for the need for studies that are free from conflict of interest. If you are confident in vaccines and upset that people choose not to take them, then speak up for unconflicted research. Otherwise you are just a schoolyard bully, shaming someone for something you dont have the expertise to shame them for.
