Its almost October. The month of pink ribbons and awareness. I - TopicsExpress

Its almost October. The month of pink ribbons and awareness. I wont rant, okay maybe a little but I promise there is more to this post. Its been a few months since I posted a check your boobs status and when I say that I mean actually go home, and check yourself. There is a scary trend going on, this whole if I dont check, it cant get me thing. Like when youre a kid and you dont want to look under the bed because you are certain there is a monster that will get you. Well, if there actually is a monster, then face the sucker head on and tell him how undaunted you are, because not looking wont protect you!!! Please dont think you are too young, too busy, too good a person, too rich, too poor, or whatever other excuse might come up. You arent. Cancer doesnt care your age, gender, race, or how often you floss. Okay you should still floss, but you get my point. You arent exempt. So...check your boobs. The most important thing is to be aware of what is there so you know when something is different. FYI men have breast tissue too, its not a girly thing to do. The other thing I wanted to talk about (not sure that anyone cares my opinion on it, but here goes) is all this pink ribbon on every product and plastered on our foreheads thing. Please be sensitive/logical when doing whatever awareness thing you choose to participate in. I wont get specific but there are sometimes when I really wonder why we do what we do...are we really bringing about change, and a real reminder for women or bringing attention to ourselves for the heck of it? Logic, thats all Im asking. It may not be a popular line of thinking, but this pink ribbon thing is a money maker. Slap a pink ribbon on a product and sales will skyrocket. Im not saying dont buy things with a pink ribbon, but be informed. Breast cancer awareness, save the tatas, whatever you want to call it is a hot topic right now and why wouldnt a company try to make money off of it? Have you noticed breast cancer awareness month has turned into a month and a half? Two weeks ago I started noticing ads and sales for the cure. Hmm...a little like Christmas beginning in October now huh? With that said, their are some legit campaigns out there. There are some companies that really do fund research. Just dont be a sucker for a frilly pink ribbon. Ill try to compile a list of some that are worth supporting. Wow, so maybe a little more of a rant than I intended. Sorry... but not really. :) I know, it might not make sense, but October is a hard month for some women who have faced breast cancer. For some it is a constant reminder of what they are facing, for others it may be liberating and even a reason to speak out about their own story. As you know I am pretty open with my journey, but for some others it is not so easy. Please pray for my sisters and brothers who are battling this disease, and for the families every day who lose someone they love to it. The battle goes on much longer after the surgery and chemo or radiation are done. There are years of tests and scans and drs visits. There are side effects from treatment that can take years to go away and some never do. There is so much more than meets the eye will this devil. So thats all. Just pray, and give a hug if you get the chance to meet one of my fellow warriors. And please check yourselves!
