Its amazing how God can use random little things to open our eyes and convict us. Today, when I got off the afternoon bus route, I realized that one of my bus kids had opened my book bag and stolen my Bible. It was already time for the evening service, so I really had to think fast or Id have to go into the service Bibleless. For a moment I was very sad and pretty angry. That Bible is my favorite Bible. It has all my notes from all of my recent Bible studying. It has all of my favorite verses highlighted. I have preachers signatures in the back and quotes and reminders in the extra pages in the back. I really love that Bible! But I only had a few minutes before service, so I started going through my options... One of my bus kids left his Bible on the bus - I could use that... People always leave Bible in the coat closet... I could use one of them if I make sure I put it back... Or I could use one of my old Bibles.. Theyre all marked up and highlighted and theyre falling apart a bit, bit theyll do... Or, I can just use my New Testament and hope the sermon is only from the NT... Right about the time this part went through my head, I felt deeply convicted about my recent anger... The Holy Spirit reprimanded me about my ingratitude to Him. There are millions of people groups who have no Scripture in their own languages. There are even many people who have never had ONE VERSE translated into their languages. Even in America, there are families who have never owned ONE Bible. And here I was angry that someone took one of my five Bibles. Here I was angry and disgruntled when I had fifty ways to get my hands on a Bible. Even before the service started I was under conviction about my own ingratitude. Praise God that I was born in the good ole USA! Praise God that I have a godly Christian (and Baptist) heritage! Thanks to God I grow up in a country where Gods inspired and preserved Word is published widely and freely! The Book itself is readily available! It is printed on tracts, flyer, billboards, and other media all over the country.... I am glad I have the Word of God in my language, my country, my church, my school, and my hands. Whether I get that particular Bible ever returns to me or not, I have so much to be thankful for! Praise God for His inspired, preserved, infallible, immutable, effective, all-powerful, all-wise ENGLISH Bible!!
