Its astounding how one person can ruin a good moment, just by opening their mouth. I had some things I needed to get done at Anoka County today, and in the elevator there was this beautiful little girl who couldnt have been more than 6 years old. She was beautiful, with huge coffee colored twinkling eyes, a little button nose, and a cupids bow mouth. She was smiling at every person in the elevator, and humming the theme song from Frozen. She, made eye contact with me and smiled even wider. I smiled back at her and I told her that her scarf which was bedazzled with beautiful rhinestones, and a beautiful shimmering pink flower, was very beautiful. I told her it was almost as beautiful as she was. She smiled from ear to ear and said thank you, and said that she thought I was beautiful too. I smiled back at her and she continued to smile at everyone. The elevator opened our time with that little angel was over. She walked off with her mom. As soon as in the elevator doors closed, this woman with a baby came out of nowhere from the back corner the elevator. She asked me why I was being so nice to that little girl, and that she was a Somalian. Everyone who knows me, knows that I am not confrontational, and I dont like to fight with people, however, during moments of extreme rudeness and ignorance, I always make an exception. I told that woman that it was none of her business who I choose to be nice to, and that I do not base Who I am nice to on their ethnicity, or their religion. I told her that that little girl, and her baby are next generation of citizens in this country. That it is our responsibility to teach the next generation to be kind caring, non racist people. I told her, that I would much rather teach that little girl that not all white people are ignorant racists, and that the majority of us are not. Hopefully, she will one day teach the same thing to her children and her childrens children. That we all may have different colors and different religions different beliefs, but we are all the same and we all have to share of this earth. Everyone will benefit from this. I also told her, that I hope Prejudice ends with her, that her baby is also our future and I hope she teaches her not to be racist. Because there is already enough prejudice and hatred in this world. The elevator opened and I stormed off. I was fuming all the way back to my car. People of America, if you approach me in an elevator, and question why I am being nice to a specific race of people and then point out what nationality they are, I am going to go all Solange and bust a cap in your ass. This is a public service announcement. Carry on!
