Its been a whirlwind couple of weeks for me. While landing in the ER and then having to have surgery in the middle of wedding season is every photographers worst nightmare, I have to say that I am actually feeling incredibly fortunate right now. While I did have a few moments where I was in tears and on the edge of a total breakdown (thanks for that by the way, Anthem Blue Cross), overall its been an experience that taught me not just that Im a lot tougher than I give myself credit for, but most importantly how lucky I am to be surrounded by a such an amazing and supportive group of friends, family, clients, and colleagues who all made this ordeal so, so much easier - and at times really, really fun. A huge thank you to my awesome sister, Helen Havlak, who flew all the way from Brooklyn to drive me to the hospital, take care of me, and put up with my loopy post-anesthesia self, to the incredibly generous and talented Nicole DiGiorgio for offering to back me up in my hour of need, to my amazing second shooters Tyler Takashi Watkins and Yuki Chan, who let me take it a little easier knowing that there would be amazing photos no matter what happened (and to Yuki for driving me all the way past Tahoe, dodging amorous teenage boys and scary abandoned hotel bathrooms, all while making me laugh so hard I was sure I was going to rip a stitch), to the awesome teams of vendors who made my job so much easier - especially Miranda Meisenbach, Anthony, and Brandi - and to the amazing, amazing couples whose weddings I did two days pre-surgery and five days post-, Molly Calcagno, Lindsay Walker, and Daniel Walker, who made it not just easy to photograph their weddings, but also incredibly fun and so, so gorgeous that had I not been able to shoot them myself, I probably would have wept through the entire editing process. I really am just the luckiest girl in the world, and could not be more grateful - even if I am beyond sore and exhausted. I cannot express enough thanks to everyone around me - you all are the very, very best.
