Its been two years since I lost my mother. She was my inspiration, my role model, my best friend, my confidant and advisor, my biggest fan, my rock, and my shelter during lifes storms. My mother was truly an inspirational woman. Her life was one of love and passion, of strength and courage, of dedication and perseverance. She was a survivor in every sense of the word, but above all else, she was a mother. She dedicated her life to her children. She worked multiple jobs, kissed boo-boos to make them all better, helped with homework, watched (and cheered the loudest) at almost every game, ironed dresses, chaperoned dances, helped us practice (whether it was for the big game or the big speech), stood proud as a peacock when we succeeded, and taught us how to get back in the seat when we failed. All the while, she taught us the value of family and friends, faith, love, joy, selflessness, beauty, and passion, but never leaving out the hard work and perseverance required to find and maintain them. She accepted us for who we were, but helped us identify and challenged us to become who we wanted to be, always encouraging us each step along the path with patience, understanding, and reassurance. Today, each step I take along that path I owe to her legacy: the lessons she taught and the little things and ways she found to teach them. Today, I miss her, and since I cannot share with her the successes I achieve along that path as we once dreamed, I dedicate them to the woman to whom they truly belong: my mother.
