Its easy to become cynical in a world with so many problems, many - TopicsExpress

Its easy to become cynical in a world with so many problems, many of which are self induced. We begin to think that kindness and generosity is a lost craft and then a dusting of metro Birmingham turns into 2-3 inches of snow on top of a quarter inch of solid ice that left the entire area in panic. This is when the simple yet extraordinary acts of kindness and generosity remind you of the goodness in people. Ann and I both were sent home from our jobs at around 11 and didnt get home until after 5. We both had to strand our cars and began hiking home with miles in front of us, but we werent left to fend for ourselves. There are many generous strangers who helped us get home safe. These are a few of the countless personal heroes of this day. From the lady in Homewood who invited me in her house after I became stranded on her curb, then gave me hot coffee, two scarves, gloves and I walking cane to gain leverage on the ice. To the man in that same Homewood neighborhood on a four wheeler who gave me a lift to the Hollywood Blvd exit to 280. From there, it was the Army National Guardsman who was himself stuck between two major accidents on 280 and decided to donate his empty time waiting to give many of the hikers rides up and down 280 to get them closer to their destination. Then, it was the two nice older ladies who braved the icy roads to give me a lift to my front door. When I got home, Ann was not there and I was worried so I set out to find her on 280 but found out that the same Army National Guardsman who helped me, helped her too. My gratitude is not near enough to thank these people and other kind souls who helped other stranded motorists. It was a mess today and it was enough for many to feel frustrated and confused, but I feel blessed and grateful. I lift up prayers for all those who had to manage todays disastrous conditions and may still be managing it at this hour. Emergency services were pushed to the brink, cell phone service was down and children were left stranded at churches and schools where many of them will have to spend the night. I ask God for the safety of everyone and thank Him for reminding me of the goodness in people.
